Felix Treadwell

BritishBritish
, b. 1992

The cheeky, cartoon-like portraits of British artist Felix Treadwell depict youthful characters, animals, and fantastical creatures in situations ranging from the mundane to the absurd and surreal. Rendered in soft, pastel hues using air brushes, most of Treadwell’s acrylic paintings depict his playful, wide-eyed avatar, Feelo, a character inspired by his favorite childhood Japanese manga comics. In 2018, after receiving an MA from the Royal College of Art in London, Treadwell traveled to Japan for a year-long residency at the Kyoto Seika University. He incorporates both Eastern and Western influences into his art through a flattened contemporary pop style that recalls Japanese artists Aya Takano and Yoshitomo Nara, as well as American artist John Wesley. Treadwell’s works have been exhibited in London, Amsterdam, Cologne, Miami, Los Angeles, Tokyo, and Taipei. He was honored with the Hix Award in 2014.
