Cristina BanBan

SpanishSpanish
, b. 1987

Cristina BanBan is known for striking portraits of Rubenesque figures. Inspired by Neoclassical physiques, these semi-autobiographical paintings present singular visions of the nude body. BanBan received her BFA in 2010 from the University of Barcelona and has since garnered international acclaim with solo exhibitions in London, Barcelona, Basel, Berlin, and New York City. BanBan works in oils, acrylics, pastels, and charcoal; her models, whose distinctly rounded bodies crowd her canvases, seem to spill from her canvases. Their poses and relationships reflect emotional and psychological states and explore themes related to intimacy, nostalgia, and homesickness.
